Transcendence
Plot: When an anti-technology terrorist group attempts to assassinate Dr. Will Caster, he finds a way to make himself become a fully aware Artificial Intelligence capable of anything.
Review: When I went to this movie on opening week, I was quite skeptical as most previews had mixed results. I was right to be skeptical. Johnny Depp hasn't had the best luck in getting a box office movie with disappointments such as The Rum Diary, The Tourist and The Lone Ranger. Personally his last two best movies were Public Enemies and Secret Window. But anyways back to Transcendence, it was a decent movie, with a great cast, but it was just boring and had no action up until the end of the movie. Basically there's a cyber-terrorist organization that says that all technology must end and Artificial Intelligence is the beginning of the end. At first everyone thinks AI systems would be great and try to stop the terrorists. Until Will Caster (Depp) gets shot, and a number of other computer labs including his colleague Joseph Tagger (Morgan Freeman; Oblivion) who escapes death. But after surviving the shot, Caster gets sicker and sicker. The hospital shows that the bullet has radiation in it and is lethal. After struggling with the fact he is going to die, Caster along with his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall; The Town) and their associate Max Waters (Paul Bettany; Firewall) all decide to save Will by making him an AI unit.
They succeed, but eventually things aren't quite as they seem and things get out of control rather quickly. Transcendence is a decent flick, but is somewhat depressing during Caster's radiation phase and is very slow. But there are some different and original ideas to this movie that make it worth checking out.
