Review:
To put it simply, the first Pierce Brosnan Bond is by far the best of his! The first of many actually, the first Bond movie filmed in Russia post Cold War, the first Bond movie with a female M, Judi Dench, and the first Russian Bond girl. Its got action, a couple of cool gadgets from Q's department and ruthless villains.
Sean Bean, formerly a double agent with M16, was left for dead by Bond on a mission in Russia. He returned, only to seek revenge against the nation that left him behind by hijacking a secret space weapon known as Golden Eye to use it against the world's powers. Stolen by Famke Janssen's Xenia Onatopp, who's quite deadly in bed, and Gottfried John's General Ourumov, they brutally take down a research facility and stage an attack on the station for a test.
This gets M16s attention and brings in the best: James Bond. There was one survivor, the Bond girl of the movie Izabella Scorupco's Natalya Simonova. Not quite like previous Bond girls, but she does a good job as a Russian. An old familiar face makes a return to the franchise. The Living Daylight's Joe Don Baker, who previously played Whittaker, is back as an American CIA agent who helps Bond.
Sean Bean is ruthless as he seeks his vengeance against Bond. Quite a fight breaks out between the two of them at the finale. Famke Jansenn's character is beautiful, but insane! She has a love of squeezing and crushing whomever she sleeps with. Ourumov is just a throw in bad guy who does a decent job as a corrupt Russian General.
Golden Eye definately delivers. Marc Campbell does a fantastic job bringing Bond into the 90s and this is by far a fun adventure!
Overall: 8/10
