The Matrix

Plot: A computer hacker learns from a mysterious group about the true nature of reality and the war against the machines.
Review: What a way to end the '90s with this sci-fi classic! The first movie to have bullet time cinematography, which basically slows down time, made this a very fun film to watch. It can get confusing at times, but the action makes this film a real treat. Set in 1999, Thomas Anderson aka Neo (Keanu Reeves) lives a boring life working for a software company and hacking stuff for criminals. He is then contacted by a man named Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) who then tells him his life is in danger and the agents, lead by Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) are coming to get him. Eventually things work out and Neo is told the truth. Humanity is really in a war against the machines, and the world he thinks of is a dream world created by a race of Artificial Intelligence that took over the world. Morpheus and the humans are trying to destroy the machines, and bring peace to the world.
Great special effects in The Matrix, fight scenes, and just a good plot, make this a very entertaining film. Keanu Reeves is in his best role by far, Laurence Fishburne is awesome as Morpheus and Carrie-Anne Moss is great as Trinity. But Hugo Weaving steals the show as Agent Smith. I highly recommend watching The Matrix for those sci-fi lovers as this one really made a difference for the genre at the turn of the century.
